Granny's Hugs and Kisses Baby Quilt

Pictured to the right  is a baby quilt with a special twist--the "O's" in the center of each square and the "X's" created when whip stitching the squares together make up a diagonal pattern of "hugs and kisses." The best part about it is that it is easy to crochet. And because it's made with individual squares, it easy to carry along your yarns, hook, and scissors in a Ziplock baggie. I usually tuck these into an oversize purse and carry it along to doctor's appointments, car trips, and long flights. (Though, for the latter, make sure you take blunt-nose scissors less than 4" long because of airline regulations.

First, the granny square instructions:

My heartfelt thanks to all who have written to express interest in my project! Because of a tight book deadline I haven't been able to get back to you individually -- or to post my patterns on this page. Please come back again soon for more details about the prayer blankets. I love and appreciate each of you for your generous hearts! -- Diane

The granny square blankie above began with the free pattern found on the Lion Brand web site, under Nature's Choice Organic Cotton, Pure Appeal Baby Blanket. You can follow the directions found at the Lion Brand URL below, or you can add Diane's special touches to the left,  for the hugs and kisses (XOXO) prayer blanket. The yarn used in the above blanket is Nature's Choice Organic Cotton: Blueberry, Strawberry, and Almond, size L-11 (8.0) crochet hook, an added round of single  crochet to each square (sc, ch 2, sc in each corner),  and with nine squares across and nine squares down, and a border of half dbl crochet, the blanket measures 39" x 39".  Complete instructions for the hugs and kisses blanket will be added within the next few days. Come back for another visit soon!
